Tips to Turn a Negative into a Positive
Are you a negative thinker, or do you know the influence on your life that comes from turning a negative into a positive? It is easier for most to think negatively. It is somehow easier for most people. But you should learn to ban negativity. When you focus on turning a negative into a positive, it takes work, but the results will be astounding.
Viewing the world with this type of perception on a continuous basis is toxic to the mind and body. The more you think of something the greater the chance that something negative will continue to exist. Like attracts like, so if a person is bitter or angry most times, he or she will continue to attract negative situations into their life. On the flipside, a person who finds the positive in every situation whether it is a positive situation or a negative, will be successful inevitably.
There is energy everywhere that cannot be seen, but is definitely felt. When you are near someone who is negative, there is a desire to keep your distance. You may not know exactly why, but it is this kind of energy is a repellent to all positive people and actions. There is an uncomfortable and heavy feeling that surrounds negative people and others simply don’t want to be around that person.
Negativity and pessimism will invade all aspects of your life, so it’s extremely important to learn how to turn a negative into a positive.
How do you View the World?
It starts right there. If you are that person, who thinks everyone is out to make your life miserable, the chances are you are right. Not because it is true but because you think, it’s true. It’s because you’ve attracted those situations to you. Likewise, if you see the many wonderful and positive things in the world, your energy works like a magnet to attract even more positive.
Several techniques exist to help you shift from negative to positive and a few are listed below.
The Use of Affirmations
An affirmation is announcing something repeatedly until it becomes a belief system. In most cases, this is done via self-talk. An affirmation can be negative or positive. In fact, we do it all the time. Sadly, it is usually negative affirmation rather than positive ones. Stop and learn to change that right now.
When you affirm something repeatedly, you have the power to bring that into real existence. If you can accept that to be something true, why not make the choice to turn the negative self chatter into positive responses usingpositive affirmations. Some examples are as follows:
- I am capable of completing this task rather than this task is too hard.
- I am worthy of happiness rather than I will never be happy.
- I deserve joy from life rather than life sucks.
- I am never going to meet Mr. or Mrs. Right. Instead say Mr. or Mrs. Right will come in grace and perfect ways.
Use Self Hypnosis to Turn a Negative into a Positive
When you think of self-hypnosis you may picture being told to bark like a dog or quack like a duck, but that is television and media. In fact, hypnosis doesn’t work that way. It is a means by which the recipient is assisted by a professional to go deeper in the subconscious to deal with something that may be manifesting negatively. The individual does self-hypnosis alone as the name suggests and it is less formal. In a sense, it is a way to drill home your affirmations and to make you believe. It is easy to learn.
It works like this: Find a comfortable, quiet spot where you will go uninterrupted for at least 15-30 minutes. You can sit or lie down, play soft music or not, and burn a candle or not. The idea is to be as comfortable as you can be so you can open your mind and relax. Take several slow and deep breaths to unwind. At first, focus on counting to five slowly as you breathe in, and five counts as you breathe out. Repeat this breathing exercise for a few minutes and then, in your head, begin reciting an affirmation of your choice. Find one that really hits home with you.
Doing this exercise each night before falling off to sleep is an efficient way to turn a negative thought into a positive one.
This is a favorite affirmation which I often give to my clients when they begin to feel overwhelmed or they feel stuck. “I believe that I have the power to make my dreams come true, and I grow in strength with every forward step I take.”
Learning to turn a negative into a positive takes practice and effort. The same way it takes practice to learn to do anything well. You have to practice and focus at first, and then it becomes second nature.
Using Tools to Turn a Negative into a Positive
Listen to positive thought CDs or your iPod while you drive to work, take a bath or a walk in nature. CDs also exist that will help with self-hypnosis if you don’t want to make up your own affirmations to say during your sessions.
Here’s a free book of affirmations with my compliments and as a thank you for reading my post. “Positive Affirmations For Success.” I hope you enjoy it.
Journaling is another effective way to change your thoughts from negative to positive. There is something soothing about putting pen to paper and writing out how beautiful you want your life to be. After a while, you will be able to recall these positive experiences whenever a negative thought tries to occupy the same space. This is a great method for learning to turn a positive into a negative. It’s a big adjustment so get help and support if you need it, until changing those thoughts becomes second nature.
Do the Work
Turning the channel from negative self-talk to that of positive self-talk is the beginning of a transformation in your thinking and life, and it will take work to make it effective.
Positive self-talk doesn’t mean to delude yourself into believing the elephant isn’t in the room. It means that you recognize that there may be areas of improvement without self-sabotage. If you are obese, telling yourself you aren’t isn’t helping your health. However, telling yourself that you can work out more and eat right more often because you deserve to be in the best health for yourself and your family, is realistic.
Brilliant words from Ralph Waldo Emerson; “When you finish each day be done with it. What you have done you cannot change. Tomorrow is another day that you can choose to begin with the highest spirit.”
When you learn how you turn a negative into a positive with practice and methods listed here, you will not only change a negative mindset, you will completely change your life.
