Why You Need to Stop Procrastination in Your Life
Sometimes there’s a perception about people who procrastinate. That perception is that they are lazy. That is not necessarily true at all, but it can lead to other things like depression. If you don’t stop procrastination eventually you will be totally overwhelmed with mixed feelings. Stress, anxiety, fatigue, shame and desperation are some of the things that will start invading your mind and body. However, it is not easy to stop procrastination especially when you don’t have a clue on how to do it in the first place. If you are in this situation perhaps the best thing you should do is to identify the causes of the procrastination. You might be delaying the things you need to do because you feel that they are too difficult to be done. Maybe you feel it is not a fun job, or boring. Perhaps you are afraid to tackle that chore. Fear is a common reason why people procrastinate. Fear can be incapacitating
You should stop procrastination because this is not a good or healthy lifestyle. During procrastination, nothing gets accomplished. Things pile up and you begin to feel guilty. When you do nothing, this is when you will start feeling depressed, overwhelmed and helpless. However, it is great to know that you can actually stop procrastination using several proven methods. First, you need to start being an organized individual. This is crucial to stop procrastination. Start with small baby steps in the beginning. For example, you can start with organizing your business and personal things before applying it into your work. Get your office or work room in order. When you are organized and everything is within reach, it makes it easier to get motivated to face that challenge. Clutter and disorganization can make you feel confused and powerless. You begin to think, “where in hell do I start?” You start by getting yourself organized and putting things in their place. Take the time to do this because this is a huge first step to stop procrastination.
One of the simple ways to stop procrastination is by breaking down huge tasks into smaller ones. Obviously, small tasks are easier to tackle and finish compared to huge tasks. For example, if you have reports to complete, household chores to finish, business goals to reach, don’t write them down as one large, time consuming task. Take that large task and divide it into sub tasks. When you start checking those smaller tasks off as complete, there is a feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction with yourself.
Another thing you need to learn is discipline. Discipline is having the perserverence to stay with something until it is finished. Whenever you feel like delaying things, tell yourself that achieving success is more important than procrastinating things. Whenever you are feeling down or sluggish, find some inspirational quotes or videos, or talk to a friend that can help motivate you to go back on track. Keep in mind that successful people can sometimes be lazy at times as well, and they find ways to stop procrastination by motivating themselves. Give yourself a small reward when you complete a task, if that helps. Keep in mind that wonderful feeling of accomplishment. It is liberating and can inspire you to do more.
